3 Reasons a PT Job in Security is the Perfect Retirement Gig
Whether you’re retired or nearly there — congratulation! You’ve worked hard to reach this milestone, but what’s next? Thoughts of a wide-open calendar and freedom are certainly appealing. You can finally get in those week-day rounds of golf, grab coffee with a friend, or take the extended winter vacation you’ve always dreamt of. While this should be an exciting time in your life, the reality is you may find yourself with a void associated with your new freedom.
Over time, many find themselves seeking a sense of purpose or desiring a bit of structure. A part-time job is a perfect solution. A job is the security industry allows you to:
Serve your community
Gain a sense of connection and purpose
Support your hobbies or financial goals
These are 3 of the many reasons a part-time job in personal security may be just what your retirement calendar needs.
Security Officers Serve Their Local Community
We all want to feel good about the work we do. Having a desire to serve the local community is a common mindset amongst good security officers. Transitioning into such a role is a natural fit for law enforcement professionals, veterans, and those with a public safety background.
While an industry-related background is common, it’s not required. If you have a desire to serve your community and help others you likely already possess many of the skills necessary to be a successful security guard. Jobs in security are often flexible and fulfilling and maybe just what you’re looking for in retirement.
Financial Benefit — Protect Savings & Support Your Hobbies
Many retired workers simply enjoy having a bit of extra cash on hand. Supporting your hobbies and treating yourself now and then is a great way to stay motivated in your work.
In a volatile economy, maintaining an income stream can protect your savings and put your mind at ease. We know you’ve done the math to understand your social security benefits. If you’re looking to push back your first withdrawal in exchange for a larger payout — a part-time job may be just the solution to bridge the gap.
Working as a Security Officer Provides Connection & Sense of Purpose
As the months and years pass, many begin to miss the sense of purpose their past career provided. Although security work varies, officers often work together and amongst the community. Communication is key in security and officers come to appreciate the sense of connection and the job provides.
Beyond the social connection, joining a work team provides each officer with a sense of purpose. Work-related obligations bring both purpose and structure back to your daily routine. These seemingly small benefits can make all the difference in your level of happiness and fulfillment during retirement.
What If I’m Not Retired?
While the above benefits certainly apply to retirees — you might be thinking they sound good for you too! Whether you’re looking for supplemental income or you’re a student, flexible part-time jobs that pay well can be hard to come by. If you’re looking for meaningful part-time work, we encourage you to submit an application.
