What Does It Take To Be a Successful Security Officer?
Twin City Security has been around since 1973, over this timeframe, we’ve employed hundreds of security guards. While our officers have come from all walks of life, there are common traits that lead to their success.
A desire to serve in the local community, integrity, and good communication skills are traits we look for when hiring security officers at Twin City Security. Wherever their post may be, our officers become public figures as they interact with patrons, visitors, and community members.
A Desire to Serve
Security officers, much like police officers or firemen, have a common mind-set. They put the needs of others ahead of their own and have a desire to serve. This is a trait that is ingrained in their personality, it simply can’t be taught.
This desire to serve allows these successful security guards to take personal responsibility in looking out for the best interest of both Twin City Security and the company or event they are guarding.
Many have used their time as a security guard as a stepping stone to further their career in the industry. We’re honored to provide experience to those with a desire to serve and advance their career in law enforcement.
Integrity
The definition of integrity is adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.
From granting access into a building to de-escalating an argument, security officers must have sound judgement skills and the ability to act in a moral and ethical manner at all times. Like any member of law enforcement, security officers may act in an impartial and honest manner in order to provide thorough and reliable service.
Good Communication
Security officers often act as a communication hub between management or an event coordinator and those visiting such as attendees, residents, employees, or customers. While each customer is unique, nearly all of our officers must interact with other people that are not co-workers.
When an incident arises, the security officer must use their communication skills to de-escalate the situation. Officers verbally communicate updates and happenings to various contacts. Written reports are also widely used in the industry to document events or incidents. All reporting, written or verbal, must be clear, thorough, and accurate.
